The women of Imago Dei gathered Friday evening in a small chapel on the campus of Southeastern Seminary for our first “Coffee and Koinonia.” Koinonia is a Greek term, which means “communion with God and with fellow Christians.”
We began by singing an old Irish hymn, “Be Thou My Vision,” with Kimberly Merida at the piano.
We then spent time at six prayer stations, set up throughout the chapel. Each station contained a display, with suggested topics for prayer.

We prayed for
- our church,

- our community,
- our country,
- the missionaries we have partnered with as a church,
- the nations,
- and the problem of human trafficking.

Our church is walking as a team in the Stop Child Trafficking Now Walk in Raleigh, so we wanted to spend time in prayer before we walked, to ask God to increase our mindfulness of the horrible practice of human trafficking.
We closed with another song, and then set out en masse to walk across the street to the Merida home for coffee and dessert. Lots of girl talk ensued, continuing until late in the evening. Some of the women went from there to a Shai Linne concert (he’s a Christian rap artist) on the seminary campus.
Singing hymns, dancing to (theologically sound) rap music, praying fervently, walking for a cause we believe in, we do all these things together to the glory of God.
