My twitter feed was going off repeatedly this morning. Around 6:15am, I began receiving messages from friends in general, and pastor-friends in particular, expressing their prayers and support for IDC. I continued to receive such messages throughout the day. In fact, I received numerous text messages, twitter messages, emails, and phone calls all week long. It was truly humbling and edifying.
The support we received from churches in RDU was particularly encouraging and refreshing. We have tons of people to reach (as JD Greear wrote in a recent post), and we all want Jesus to be known and worshiped by the people of the Triangle. IDC just wants to be a faithful church that does its part to spread the good news alongside other faithful, Gospel-centered churches.
Later on Sunday night the elders met with some of the guys in our equipping program and ask them to identify some of their highlights. They included:
- Taking the Lord’s Supper (and knowing we get to do this every week)
- Lyrically rich musical worship
- Seeing many new faces—both adults and kids
- Being part of a church that does covenant membership, and the way in which it is handled publically
- Seeing our 40 covenant members go to work at 8:15am to get everything set up by 9:30. Today we were an hour faster than our first week! The core team is like a NASCAR pit crew (I’m giving NASCAR some love now after my comment in worship)
- Seeing a full band for the first time (they were rocking today)
- Covenanting with 5 new members of Imago Dei
These are some of the highlights. All in all it was an awesome day. We had over 160 people in worship, and we hope that many of them come back! We still have a lot to work on and a long way to go, but we are grateful to God that he has allowed us to get to this point. We pray that many people will leave IDC weekly not saying “what a great sermon” or “what a great building” or “what a great musical production” but instead that they would leave saying “What a Great Savior.”
Next week we will begin studying the book of Galatians. May God draw our affections to the Savior as we gather again…

Miss you guys tremendously at Temple, church has not been the same for me! So excited for you, I knew God was going to do great things in your life. What a gift!!! Give God the Glory!!!
