A few years ago I (Nate) was introduced to the ministry of Steve Timmis. This seems to have been quite a providential introduction. Timmis has shaped my ministry and philosophy in a profound way. He, as much as any other teacher, pointed me to the beauty of a gospel centered community and how God is not merely saving individual souls, but instead the work of Christ is purifying “for himself a people for his own possession who are zealous for good works.” In addition, Imago Dei has been profoundly impacted by Timmis ministry. In particular, we teach in our Covenant Membership process the concept that In Christ our identity has changed from a person in isolation to a person in community. We try to help our people see that belonging to Imago Dei (and more importantly the church of Christ) is not about something that you “do” but something that you “are.”
The Elders would say that one of the strongest convictions of Imago Dei’s ministry is our gospel community and fellowship. This conviction has certainly been impacted by Timmis’ teaching through the Scriptures and his pointing to the beauty of this in the life of the New Testament church and the life of the Christian.
It is because of these things that we are extremely excited to have Steve Timmis preaching at Imago Dei on March 17th at both services. IDC please be there and spread the word about him coming as he opens the scriptures to talk with us about Gospel and Community.
