A prayer room…. Really? Why pray in a prayer room? I would like to first make three assumptions about the reader of this blog. First, you know that throughout Scripture God calls us to pray, daily, in all things, all the time. Secondly, God hears our prayers and for some mysterious reason has chosen us to be involved in what He does on this earth through our prayers. Lastly, the Bible says we have this wondrous, amazing, awe inspiring, privilege of entering the throne room of God and coming before the creator of the universe.
So why pray in a prayer room? There are 2 places in the world that I love to pray, walking in the woods and in a prayer room. I’ll keep my comments to the prayer room. There is something to be said about being in a place that has been dedicated for prayer, a place that you know that the previous occupants of the room were in the presence of the most Holy God. There is a different feel to this place and when I walk into a prayer room I feel my heart strings pulling me towards God. Before you dismiss that, just think about other places you might have walked into and the emotions that it invoked. For me, I sense the presence of the Lord in a prayer room and I want to pray, I want to praise Him, I am content in His presence and do not want to leave.
So why a prayer room at Imago Dei? Our desire is to see a place where there is a continuous crying out to God, for ourselves, our loved ones, our church, our city, our country, our missionaries scattered throughout the world. To see a place where the needs of the body can be communicated to those who would intercede for them, a place for a hurting saint to come and be prayed for and to spend time before the Healer of our souls, a place where the battle to tear down the strongholds of the enemy continues hour after hour, to simply see a place of prayer, praise, and meditation. “We always pray for you, that our God may . . . fulfill every work of faith by his power, so that the name of our Lord Jesus may be glorified in you (2 Thessalonians 1:11–12)
So what would an hour in the prayer room look like and when will the prayer room be launched? Stay tuned for Part 2.
