On Thursday night, November 21 at 7:00 pm, at the IDC Building, we are having a special night of teaching and equipping focused on adoption and orphan care. We encourage all IDC folks to join us, and to invite anyone else who may benefit from this event. We will concentrate on how we might live out the “C” of our “PEACE Plan” – Care for the Orphan and the Oppressed. Our brother James tells us:
Religion that is pure and undefiled before God, the Father, is this: to visit orphans and widows in their affliction, and to keep oneself unstained from the world.
James 1:27 ESV
Pastor Tony will begin the evening by providing a fifteen-minute exposition of this text (and other related passages on the fatherless), followed by some Q/A with some special guests.
To help us understand how we might practically care for orphans in their affliction, both domestically and internationally, we have invited Sarah Beth Fentress and Pam Taylor to share with us.
Pam Taylor is the founder and Executive Director of Mercy for America’s Children, “a North Carolina based non-profit organization advocating on behalf of children awaiting adoption in the US Foster Care System by educating the public about the benefits of foster care adoption, reforming the adoption process, connecting waiting children to potential adoptive families and supporting them through their adoption journey.” Pam set up a booth recently before corporate worship, and it will be good to hear her passion for domestic foster care and adoption. Sara Beth Fentress, founder of 127 Worldwide, will also be with us. Our very own Emily Barton serves on the board of 127 Worldwide, and Sara Beth has been friends with Kimberly and Tony for over 10 years (They are very old). This ministry is dedicated to “connecting people to the needs of orphans and widows around the globe through education, advocacy, and sponsorship.” For more info, see: http://127worldwide.org/
See you Thursday night!
