For many adults, we would agree that our “early years” had a profound and lasting effect on the way we think and act. Not only were we impacted by what we taught at home, we also began to see how the rest of the world acted and thought, especially at school. Each classmate brought a different perspective on what is truth and how we should live our lives. Many times, boys will search to try to understand who they are and who they should follow. It’s our desire at Imago Dei Church that they would look to Jesus himself, who according to Luke 2:52 “increased in wisdom and in stature and in favor with God and man”.
Thus, starting on Thursday, April 12 from 6:00pm to 7:45pm the “MIT” (MEN IN TRAINING) Boy’s Growth Group for grades 3-8 will begin meeting together. In this time, the boys will share a meal together, discuss the sermon, and have fellowship with one another. It’s our prayer that during this time each week, the boys would begin to understand what it looks like to live in community with one another, and also that the Holy Spirit would begin to work in their hearts to see Jesus through His Word and their need for Him.
Additionally, starting May 3rd, the “MIT” Growth Group will be meeting with the girls of “G3” for a time of community together from 6:00pm to 7:45pm on the first Thursday of each month. During that time we will share a meal together, worship, and study under the curriculum of Children Desiring God , “In the Beginning Jesus.” During these monthly meetings, we will also welcome younger boys and girls (grades K-2) to join us for food, fellowship, and instruction. We will be learning about a great mystery that is recorded in the Bible. It was a mystery that was kept secret and not fully understood for many years, but now it has been revealed. The children will come to learn that the mystery has been solved, and that God wants to show them the solution!
Each month, parents will be supplemented with information to take home and work through with their children to help shepherd them through the material that was explained and taught that Thursday. Ultimately, our prayer is that real shepherding takes place at home and growth group times are a place to help enhance that teaching.
